Iron: a mineral element that is extremely toxic in elemental form in the body.

Overview

Terms: Iron poisoning, iron toxicity and iron deficiency are used interchangeably, but they don’t mean the same thing.

Elemental iron is highly toxic to the body and is commonly found in food as an additive (enriched).  The body sequesters iron by combining it with a blood protein called, ferritin.
