When Diagnosis Is Irrelevant! Musings On Medicine & Health

Today’s Special Insight draws on a Vietnam War metaphor to explain the dilemma confronting patients everywhere.  I trust the reader will find the analogy useful.  To learn more, read on. 

Observation: Sick-care is collapsing and people will need guidance and valid information when self-care is their only option.  Good doctors are shackled, and they are in short supply!  The system is rigged against patients and long lines are coming.  Knowledge and guidance will serve you well. 

Mission: I write because I see what we are told does not match-up with, truth.  I mock sick-care because it deserves to be mocked.  My mission is to deliver truth and perspective on matters of health and longevity.  Truth will prevail and people deserve to know truth for their personal and family well-being.

“That may be so, but it is also, irrelevant!”

Said, US General Frederick Weyland to North Vietnamese General, Vo Nguyen Giap:

“You know, you never beat us on the battlefield; America’s fighting forces did not fail us” he told his North Vietnamese counterpart during negotiations in Hanoi a week before the fall of Saigon.  General Giap pondered the remark and replied, ‘That may be so, but it is also irrelevant.”

General Weyland’s comment to General Giap was factual, but irrelevant because the US lost the War.  Similarly, a medical diagnosis based on meaningless facts [medical noise!] and misconstrued test results is MISDIAGNOSIS and, irrelevant.

In the courtroom, a trial lawyer makes sure the jury separates meaningless facts from hard evidence.  Likewise, in the medical arena, it is the patient’s job to separate medical noise from relevant evidence.  Wise is the patient who obtains guidance and understands that the sick-care system is a high-class racket that should be avoided whenever possible.

Ring! Ring! Goes The Bell!

Ring! Ring! Goes the phone! [borrowing from Chuck Berry’s 1950’s rock’n roll song, Ring! Ring! Goes The Bell!]

“Hello! This is John Thomas. How may I help you?”  And, so begins what is hopefully a conversation of merit based on relevant information rather than factual noise of little significance.

The challenge is to help callers separate relevant information from useless facts so the caller understands what happened to them, why they suffer and what they can do to help their situation.  Few callers understand the cause of their problems or from where their problems derive.

When callers asks for help, my job is to assist!  It does not matter how well they have cared for themselves, how many supplements they take, how much they exercise, what they know [or think they know] or the credentials behind their name.  The caller needs guidance; that is why they are calling.

Helping callers can be, challenging!  For example, separating misconstrued test results and erroneous conclusions is not easy, but anything less perpetuates, misdiagnosis, and there is nothing worse than treatment for a disease that does not exist or that a patient does not have!

Can You Help Me? 

Callers are tired of office calls and endless tests.  They want answers to their problems and they assume doctor knows the cause of their problem.  Instead, what patients get is an opinion and a diagnostic label based on symptoms.  In the sick-care system, cause is IRRELLEVANT.

Callers don’t trust allopathic medicine [outside of the emergency room.]  They know there is a better way and they want guidance; something the sick-care system neither offers nor provides.

Patients are very tired of practitioners who talk alternative, but function as allopathic facsimiles within the sick-care system.  Unfortunately, medicine and Big-Pharma attack professionals who think independently, refuse to toe the party line or embarrasses their colleagues.

“NASA, We Have A Problem!”

Tom Hanks uttered those famous words in the movie, Apollo 13.  I hear similar expressions daily, such as, “I sleep poorly.  I can’t control my bladder.  I am always sick.  I feel old.  My legs and feet burn.  I have no energy.  I have difficulty walking.  My sex life went bye, bye.  I have cancer, diabetes, arthritis and/or heart problems.  I take XXXX medications and I’ve had XXXX surgery(s).

People are frustrated and they want information that is relevant to their situation.  How a conversation goes depends on the caller’s willingness to separate medical noise from relevant facts.

At some point in a conversation, callers must surrender preconceived ideas and sometimes their treasured diagnosis from doctor.  Substance and relevance make for good conversation, but an open attitude and willingness to listen make the difference.

Solving The Riddle & Understanding The Problem

It is satisfying when a caller says, “I get it!  Now I understand my situation!”

When callers finally grasp the nature of their dilemma, they get excited because they finally, understand.  Thirty minutes is a typical consultation WITHOUT cost.  Consultation helps callers identify key factors, review possible protocols and develop a plan.
